Going to great heights for Health and Safety

Posted 6th February 2012

It looks like an opening scene from Casualty but this picture was actually taken at our site in Epping where our site team was going through crane evacuation training!

As a professional and competent contractor, we must ensure that we have rescue plans and a rescue team in place when we have a tower crane operating, in case the operator has a medical crisis. This ensures that we have the processes in place to safely lower the operative to ground level without having to rely on the emergency services who can refuse to scale a tower crane. A Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) would also be called in to assist our team for extra support and guidance.

Over the last 12 months we have had 3 of these training days and a further session is planned for our Shell and Core project in Norwich.

Mick Bray, our HSQE Manager, organises these training sessions and explains 'I always arrange the training to be carried out on site as the guys get a feeling for the real thing when they are evacuating someone from an actual crane in a life like emergency situation. Its much more beneficial than if its carried out in a training environment'.

This is all part of Tamdown's ongoing commitment to Health and Safety and ensuring that our site teams are fully equipped for emergency situations.
