Client; Bloor Homes
Contract Value; £458,325
Contract Duration; 16 weeks
Tamdown were contracted to undertake remediation of this former scrap yard which had been contaminated through leakages of underground storage tanks on site as well as from inspection pits and maintenance areas. The site is located close to residential areas and as well as this, badger sets were present on the banks that form the boundaries of the site which itself sits 10m below the surrounding land. These sensitive receptors had to be taken into account when planning the works and liaison with the ecological consultant on the job ensured that works were carried out with minimal disruption to the badgers.
During works, previously unreported tanks were uncovered which had to be decommissioned and removed in full accordance with duty of care regulations.
- Demolition of existing structures and removal of asbestos containing materials (ACM’s);
- Clearance/decommissioning of USTs and associated pipework;
- Targeted remedial excavation and screening of circa 2557m3 soils to a depth of 5.5mbgl. On-site treatment by ex-situ bioremediation of 2185m3 hydrocarbon contaminated soils to below risk-based targets to allow soils to be re-used as backfill to the clients engineering specification. This was carried out utilising our Environmental Permit.
A comprehensive programme of soils validation analysis & groundwater monitoring was undertaken by Richard Jackson plc. on behalf of Bloor Homes with support from Tamdown to achieve regulatory sign off.
