Countryside Strategic appointed Tamdown to assist with the creation of a 465 acre “New Garden Village Community”. The development provides 2000 dwellings with community and leisure facilities, together with a 100 acre country park, consisting of lakes and the “Great Notley Bowl” open air amphitheatre with a capacity for 10,000 people. 

Construction work began with the creation of the major infrastructure roads, sewers, balancing pond, community centre, cricket pitches, Country Park and amphitheatre. Tamdown also installed innovative traffic calming measures, creating a 20mph zone throughout the development. 

The giant steel Kestrel statue placed by Tamdown on the amphitheatre was founded on 23m deep piles. The piling rig and all materials required to erect this statue utilised a crane to position them in order to preserve the amphitheatre. 

Countryside Properties PLC were awarded the “What House - Best Development Gold award for 1996” and attribute its success to all members of the project team, including Tamdown.
